Between Iraq and a hard place

When we condemn,Our friends the Turks,It only makes us,Look like jerks. No wonder that,They feel betrayed,Considering Guantanamo,And Abu Ghraib. It's not just about Armenia,It's mostly a show,For our media. It's a little late,For morality,Now we need the Turks',Hospitality. We should be less concerned,With their disgrace,And more concerned,With their airspace. No matter what,They have to hide,Now we need them,By our side. If they enter Iraq,To fight the Kurds,We may regret,Our self righteous words. No matter our feelings,On the genocide case,Now we're between Iraq,And a hard place!

Hey Michael,

one of the greatest poets in the English language once rhymed eye with symmetry (William Blake). You are forgiven. And I applaude you taking an overtly political stand, but be careful. Issues are so much more complex than the media allow us to believe. My Turkish flatmate gave me some info on the Kurds that astounded me, they are barely considered. She has never met a single one. You know the media term "beat up", creating a story out of nothing by asking a politician "have you stopped beating your wife yet?". Don't get me wrong, there is serious stuff happening there but we need better information than the filthy lying media corporations provide. A little extra note. You have copped some serious flak on this site, and I am not saying you haven't made some serious mistakes and insensitivities, but I applaude your courage in sticking around, participating and congratulations on your contest win. with respect, Jess p.s. and bloody good on you for checking the correct pronunciation, if more people were as intelligent, considerate and thoughtful as you the world would be a much better place.

Nice Try Here, Michael

I like your grit. Keep it up. There's gold in your hills. Mining it, though, can be extremely hard work. I agree with Weirdelf. The Kurds are a too-often-trashed minority that deserves, I think, more than a little sunlight. To move the focus to the Turks: The Muslim world gangs up on them regularly. And royally. As being too West-leaning. Too secular for Islamic tastes. Gordian knots are not just insoluble; they're sticky, too. Especially this one. Thanx for serving up more grist for Neopoet's mill. Much appreciated. Yours again, Chuck
