Every Now and Again

Every now and again I think of you

and the warmth of your smile,

and I recall we were best of friends

if only for a while.

I remember sharing

a day and a night with you,

and both of us not caring

what we were going to do.

‘Cause all that really mattered

was each other’s company,

and we had an understanding-

no expectations ‘tween you and me.

I remember you were laughing

at something I had said,

and then I had to hold you

as you cried your eyes so red.

Every now and again I think of you

and I wonder how you are,

and I wish the space between us

was not so very far…
