Tragedy of human nature

Tragedy of human nature

The fickleness of human nature never ceases to amaze

it is at its worst at the best of times

and at its best at the worst of times

oh human nature, what a stunning prospect

I think at times, when i look around me

i am here, the mere observer, watching, waiting

yet, human nature, it continues to disappoint

look at the past transgressions of our forefathers

murder, hate, revenge, the sneakiness of the human mind

the vindictiveness of the human heart

all this a part of you, and yes a part of me

but what makes each one of us different to the next?

What makes you cross boundaries and lines

that for me are a forbidden line to cross

what makes you put all vengeful thoughts into practice

whereas i would rather just think, yes just think

what it…just what if i had to cross that boundary

what would happen….yes what would happen if i did?

Would i get off scott free like you constantly do?

Would my conscience not scream and rebuke me?

Is this what stops me from crossing that line?

These are questions that we each ask every time

we hear of a murder, an atrocity put down to times of war

but, will we ever find the much needed answers?

There will come a time, when we will all have this question

along with many others answered, and we will then know

until then, it is clarity, explanations we seek

until then, blood will continue to flow
