ABORTION

As it’s done,

a generation gone,

destinies killed,

by the merciless witch.

It hunts our moral world with a staff

of death arose from a nicotine like ash

dropped in the life of a blood line

washed away by this arseniclike strive,

The world should know,

that we are the makers of tommorow;

my face wouldn’t have written this poem

if my blood had been washed by this flood from hell.

learn to live ,

lets live,

and make our world a free one,

where this pit could be bitten with outmost sanity.

well...

I actually feel compelled to respond to both the poem, and Jess' post here. Forgive me on stepping on any toes gang, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in, take it or leave it. I'm taking the title at face value and assuming that this indeed about the abortion procedure, and not an allusion to something else. I sense alot of anger in this write, but I'm not sure if I sense personal anger or "abortion is bad so therefore I am angry" kind of anger. And you know what, ellis? It is bad, it is repugnant, one of the great evils of our world. A true crime against humanity and God. I empathize with you, but hold on a second... Why is it evil? Simply because we're told is evil? That takes the real humanity out of it, the tragedy out of it. Any murder, be it abortion, homicide, suicide, war, etc. seems to be boiled down to the statistic of "this is how many people are killed each year." Of course, this tells you nothing of the human story. Each person, born and unborn, past, present, and future is a history that affects those around them, and even distantly. to end a life for any reason does grave potential damage to the surrounding people for years, if not an entire history to come. The true tragedy of abortion is the we've boiled it down to a "choice." To me, the term is insulting. Don't get me wrong, I make a clear distinction between a victim of rape or incest, and using abortion as birth control or because a woman doesn't feel a child fits into her life. I have known women who have had reasons for both, and have been good friends with one who made that choice. And here, here is the humanity part. Her making that choice didn't stop me being that woman's friend, ellis. Why? How much has our culture failed women when they see no other option than this hideous crime? On a whole, from pro - choicers, to pro - lifers we have boiled down this issue to a statistical one vs. a "God hates you" one. If God hates women who've had abortions, woe to me and everyone else on this planet. For trust me, we've f*cked up quite fine on our own, we have all sinned. Whether you are pro life or pro choice, I urge you above all things to remember the human cost, the human connection to all of this. I empathize with anyone who has been victimized or brutalized, but as a closing let me tell you a true story, one that I've never shared with anyone and only do so here because we are all semi anonymous: My mother was a career prostitute and a woman of very little means. My second oldest sister is the product of my mother's pimp raping her. I only found this out last year from my other sister. My mother could have, maybe in the eyes of the world, should have had an abortion. And then what? This lovely woman I know as my sister and I would never have had the opportunity to know each other, to grow. I can tell you that my sister has made valuable, valuable contribitions to the world, to my family. Should she not have been allowed that chance? I tell you that life, life and love are the greatest gifts from a generous God. It is not our place, under any circumstance to determine if it is a life worth living. I believe that for abortion, the death penalty, war, crime, etc. Thanks for letting me rant. God bless both of you, Mark W.

thank you mark

I truly appreciate your long, thoughtful reply. Especially "I make a clear distinction between a victim of rape or incest, and using abortion as birth control " Although I though i think using abortion as birth control is careless, to say the least, it is still the choice of the woman. Not the Catholic Church or any other fundamentalist religious fascists that indoctrinated her. I have known many women who have had abortions and none have been happy about it. But once when I accompanied my 16 year old girl friend to an abortion clinic we were accosted by "Right to Life"ists. I bashed the man and trampled their obscene billboard. The security guard looked the other way. I no longer practice physical violence at all, but still remember the utter sense of justice I felt kicking his face and balls for the way he made my girlfriend feel. If God is love, "Right to life"ists don't know him. Jess cheers, Jess

You made

a poignant comment on the last sentence. I went to a "Christian" festival in summer 2006 at a Catholic seminary. There was music, street vendors, vendors selling "virginity" tokens, right to life booths, booths with educational info, etc. You know what was missing? God, not ONE mention of him. I wrote a poem called "The sublety of Satan." I'll see if I can find it.

I came upon this ....

Being a believer...not a religious fanatic, for RELIGION KILLS, I am saddened. As a believer we are supposed to love people and pray for them...not judge them, for we are no better than the people that are judged by the judgemental. If so-called Christians would follow Jesus' teachings they would realize that He did not force anyone into following Him. Being raised into a works and legalistic laws type religion...I was terrified of God. BEEP!! Wrong!! I am ashamed of so-called Christians who 'hate' when they are supposed to Love. I am not trying to start a new uprising. This subject is a strong one with me. A lot of what I write is poetry specifically aimed towards the church. I had a lady e-mail me and tell me that "God told her??" that I was a very bitter person because I had written a challenge to the mega-church...you know, the money hungry conglomeration that has nothing to do with humility and love...the kind of organization that does not know who you are when you walk through the door...for they are too busy putting on a show and getting rich! ARGHHH!! Well, this is the same poem that a lady recently asked permission to be added to a book where the total proceeds are to go to the homeless. I am ashamed of what 'Religion' has done for the cause of Christ. Jess, you have written a very valid response. The people that are standing out there with pictures of dead, aborted babies ought to have their asses kicked. My daughter is in nursing school. She went to a planned parenthood for a checkup. These so-called Christians accosted her at her car...an angry mob! Makes me sick! Wolfycat.

You clearly didn't think about my or Marks comments, an atheist and a Christian. Christian fundamentalists have killed more people than any terrorist group. utterly without respect for your preaching ignorance and your lack of care for womens rights, Jess

Everyone is entitled

to there own opinion I do believe that, but I also believe no one has the right to judge another! Until you are or have been in their shoes you never know what choices you will make until it is happening to you! Trust me I know a great deal about this subject. Does this poem mean that God does not love me or I am condemmed to Hell because I was in a bad situation? I do not believe so,I believe God works with us as individuals just as I have three children and I love them all the same but I know they are different and I treat their feelings as such. I know life is precious but who is to say that I would have done the right thing by my baby not loving its father and him having mental issues{turning the car off on the highway at 60 miles on hour} with my other baby in the car at the time. I knew at the time what was right for me. Sorry now? Yes but I can't take it back and I will not give up on the rest of my life or not speak about it to please someone else no matter what their views are.GOOD DAY!

Julie, Jess, Ellis, Frost, David,

I think one thing we have seen from the reactions of this poem is just how incredibly polarizing this issue is. We have members from all over the world even just right here on this page and you can see how the gament of emotions is run. I respect all of your views, and the reactions therein are born out of strongly held beliefs and emotions. Let's admit to each other right now that A: None of us is going to change the other's opinions here, and that B: to respect each other and our beliefs, situations, etc. Julie is right in that we can not judge anybody based on a situation we've not been in. I want you to pay attention to that, Ellis, because while it is clear that you love God I wonder if you have been near your Bible lately? I agree with you on the horrors of abortion, and I don't see it being a "right" I'd say your method of browbeating will never get your point, or God's message across. People do things that we find horrible, evil. As Jesus said, "do not say to them 'you have a plank in your eye!' take the plank out of your own eye first, hypocrite!" My wife and I were a young couple dating when we found out we were having a baby. Abortion was never an option for us, though we were scared to death. As I tell you this now I look at my seven year old son and tell you we would have never considered such as thing as going to a clinic. However, on the flip side let us be compassionate. Our neighbor (and my wife's cousin) was pregnant, and her boyfriend completely changed, accused her of the baby not being his, (though the child clearly was)lending no support to her, etc. His actions made me sick, because I see it in so many men, I never even met my own father because he could take no responsibility for me. Men, men, MEN! If you are going to rail against the evils of abortion then back it up, not by being bigots, not by spewing doctrine that you yourself have little real knowledge of, but by being there for your woman, for the children that you rear. If you're going tell me how evil a situation is then HELP don't preach. Maybe if we didn't leave these women out in the cold to fend for themselves they would never need to see this atrocity as their only option. If you are a father, be a father. If you are a husband, be a husband. Moral virtues? They start at home, with the family. Are you being everything you should to yours? Or are you so distracted by this issue you know little about that you have little time for them? Mark W.

It does make me phause to note his lack of response ,see there is at issue a victemization of the human "ellis" falling victem to the unchecked docterin of Radical forces Disquised as a church of worship and until he is left to see the failings in the teachings and be given the truth with out the fanatics brainwashing how will he see the way that was meant for him and the damage to his self image always watching less he slip in his defense of fanatic beliefs His life and well beig may be what leads him astray and to the hands and tongues of the Defilers, those Heratics in robes that would burn the bible one page at a time as they rewrite it . A friend had an exange student from Africa next door ,and I was told of Cult like Bible studies that promised only food, which lead to going to evanalize (terrorize )the locals to come to "church."Churches that would teach Fanatism if not for the monies they receive possing as christian establishments . The ranting is all text and only grows stronger by retoric and the people here ALL adress this in a manner umm Dare I say OUTSIDE The Box ,Eliis Break free there are people waiting remember it was nessacary to get away now you have a new path to walk May the Horizon be open to you .Escape. From the truth to the lie and back. in ink, Dabbler ps Damn the spelling Pixies please.

Judge not lest ye be judged...

Judge not lest ye be judged, oh thats right right we can't be judged on this subject because it is not an option we have as men; we will never have to make that ultimate choice; we have about as much right to an opinion as a woman has in telling us to have a vasectomy to prevent getting a women pregnant in the first place.

Not exactly killing him with kindness...

I would like to point out that ellisville is one person in a sea of people, he is the minority, I would like to believe most of our memebers are open minded enough to understand the need for everyone to be able to exsist... ...With that being said I am not one of them; from what I have read of your work you are a closed minded, blinded by the light of crist as you choose to see him so called christian that hates anything that doesn't conform to your beleif system; while using this site to propagandize and promote an agenda that would be better served in a 1800's purtian community...I will join in ignoring your work

perhaps you didn't read his work

perhaps you didn't read his work that advocated bashing women? Yes, I am intolerant of violence, female mutilation and war in general, and will continue to express those views. Poets are not merely expresses of beauty, we have a responsibility to say things that are wrong with the world. ellis found my sympathy with the quality of his poetry and his loneliness, he is now revealing himself to be a misogynist bigot and I wish him all the loneliness in the world. Unless he comes out of the closet and stops mis-treating women. cheers, Jess

Perhaps you didn't read the second half of my comment..

I was simply pointing out in the first half that I don't speak for the site, the second half was how I feel. We are impassioned jess, both a curse and a blessing of being poets, We must weigh personal feelings with site responsibilites, right? I just didn't want anyone to think because we hold an advocates badge we speak for the whole of its memebership, or a click can dictate policy However; too use your terms "he can fuck off", I will join in ignoring his poetry hoping he will just go away, out of sight out of mind
