Being One's Self

I’m looking all around me

and just what do I see?

Confused and insecure people

all looking back at me;

a face that’s hidden, and one displayed

to confuse us even more,

it makes no sense to live like this

what are we hiding for?

Our real being is in our soul

our individuality should make us proud,

instead we pretend to be someone else

just to fit in with the crowd.

We should be proud of who we are

and you should embrace the real you,

then we can stop lying to everyone

and live lives that are honest and true.

Just look in your heart of hearts

you might find that you agree,

then we can get busy living lives

where you’re you-and I am me.

Oh Doc !

What a question this poses! Who am I? No it is not your name right? Name is a title to the book of you or me or anyone for that matter. I am myself. Good one huh? Well tell me about yourself? All of a sudden end of conversation lol. Unless I Break it down a bit. Let me tell you about one thing about one component - a rather controversial one as most peoople talk alot about it. I express my joy and love for my soul mate with sex. I use sex to express my love and the joy I have for her. It is not my only expression of love and joy for her - there are very many. It is a great question Doc I could talk about my body and my thinking in regards to her and me and on and on . . . I express love for myself (healthy self regard) by taking care of myself as best I can (I could really make me an individual here). Oh doc this poetry is awesome I really hope others join in here. Who is afraid to talk about themselves? I suppose those who have been hurt in the past and became sensitive (or worse) to "opening up". Truly, Mark

I liked this one.........

Hi Doc As with all your work, you bring up a very vaild point here. "Just look in your heart of hearts you might find that you agree, then we can get busy living lives where you’re you-and I am me." Especially this line, i wish alot more of us could do this, wouldn't the world be a more honest place? Lovely write, thank you. Kind regards Feebie Mistakes happen, do not dwell on them, live them, mourn them and move on to better things. (PS: if that does not work eat lots and lots of chocolate)

Oh Doc

you are you and I am me, and those who fail to see that, well it is their loss. Societies to blame! LOL. But seriously don't you think your poem speaks to people who already know that? Wish you would post some poems in the first person. cheers, Jess

food for thought

Hey Doc: I'll give it to you for being right on, as I see it there are lots of people that believe they are being their selves, yet hiding behind a faux-ode..of what they think they are or want to be...this has really made me think about the subject..good I need to think once in a while..haha.Thanks by the way, this is really me speaking!
