The Spider and the Fly
Consider the spider
and the common house – fly
and the way they dance
at the bottom of my
basement steps.
She has grace, and long, supple legs,
while his erratic movements
get him tangled even further.
She glides gently down
and pecks him on the wing,
and I watch it go limp and die.
It becomes useless to him
as he tries to free himself.
She runs away
to watch him become sleepy
from a distance.
As his movements become sluggish
she moves in for one last dance,
a slow dance this time.
She kisses him to death,
and wraps him in her tiny arms.
Kill, sweetie.
Live off his blood.

I love spiders and hate flies
