Hauntings of a broken past

Hauntings of a broken past

She looks in the mirror, wondering

Silently to herself, her thoughts all a muddle

Staring back at her are soulless, empty eyes

The sparkle of life stripped from them by your countless lies

Eyes that once danced with joy

Whenever they caught sight of you

A soul that sang of love and promise

Whenever you were near, her eyes once sapphire blue

Are now colorless pools of pain and rejection

The light once found there, has all but faded

Like a flame that when extinguished, will eventually die

This the proof that she has become to jaded

Cheated, deprived of her freedom, her youth

When she stayed by your side

And loved you for all she was worth

Yet she received in return, bruises she had to hide

Hide these she did, for she was ashamed

Bruises in your opinion, that were well deserved

A beating for each one of her indiscretions

That eventually left her permanently unnerved

Though your paths have now separated

Though your lives are now lived part

The aftermath of you brutal, so called lovable treatment

Still creates a cold, fearful shiver to resound through her heart

It will never leave her, the shame, the fears

For to this day she still sheds bitter tears

For the painful past that was her life

For when she was your once supposedly loved wife

Wife, which in itself should have meant so much

From you, she should have received your loving touch

But today, she pulls back, knowing that love will never last

Thanks to the brutal reminders, the hauntings from her broken past

WOW!

I can't believe it, Do You know me? You have just described my past. I am so glad that those days are gone but I am not bitter. I have learned to love myself and real love has followed. This work is great!! I am going to read it again and again. Thanks

Great Imagery

Loved the imagery used here and the flow was good. Still creates a cold, fearful shiver to resound through her heart. Great line - I could feel the shiver when i read it! Kaz
