A Chick... Seasoned

KFC, and Popeyes
moms an pops joints that serve us fried
for years on slaughter floors the machines
process our flesh, as the masses ingest us
raise us up couped up
some given a boast of protein, to get big fine…

only if you could feel the machines end your days
I wonder would you still feast on me?
off with your thighs and breast so swole
contaminated though with sacks of silicone
hack off the unneccasary, throw it to the pigs
let the herds of cattle feast on remnants and bits

freeze your parts till a savage beast grabs them for dinner
clean and season, then off into the scalding grease
as your meat darkens from the heat of fat crackling
then with mac and cheese, serve, lets all eat..

enjoy that 3 piece and a biscuit, don’t forget the drink.

not a vegan

No Im not a vegan, but I do alot of perspective writing. I thought it would be interesting to speak from the animals perspective. So again, not a vegan, just imaginative..lol I do limit how much meat I eat. Thanks for the response.

I felt my gorge rise

A very powerful poem. Can't comment on the structure, there is nothing bad, the meaning is the message. It is the reason I deplore exploited meat, while having taken responsibility for killing an animal and eating it, won't be a vegetarian. The veges suffer from corporate exploitation too. Corporatism is the evil, not the meat. cheers, Jess

thanks for responding....

Well I'm not a vegan. Just a imaginative writer. I tend to do alot of poems like this one, from the perspective of inanimate objects, and animals. This poem was just a lingering thought I had at the time, as I was growing tired of the fried foods. There's subtle hints to other social issues within the poem, like eating habits, obesity, vanity. Of course the meat isn't evil, I'm leaning more in the directions of how we eat in america. We want everything yesterday, quick fast and ready to go, sadly harming the health of many, Yet we all want the body of a god. Thanks for the response. Sabe

from another perspective

thought provoking and intelligent. I loved how you wrote the poem almost from a "ghost chicken's" point of view, IMO. For a different take on the same issue check out my poem "chickens" on here. God bless, Mark W.
