Every so often god whispers

Every so often god whispers.
I don’t notice,
so he shouts,
I complain about the planes overhead
so he taps me on the shoulder,
I shrug
so he gives me a shove,
I stumble and grumble at the shoddy pavement,
so he whacks me in the head with a bit of 4 by 2.
Hey,
I lament,
You only had to say.

if

only it were as simple as god tooling around with us and making this already very difficult life even more difficult with incidental but catastrophic (in one's daily consciousness) events. if only it were god and not the world! so lacking mercy and compassion with our reactions to the very common petty cruelties you skillfully portray here. good job

very nice

I like simple poetry about complex things. I agree that when we forget, God whispers with a bird song or child's smile - and sometimes he screams with a sunset or a thunderstorm. And you sometimes are like, "Okay, I get it!" Anyway, I liked the idea and wording. -George

Now, I really and truly love this piece. Have you ever had Him chastise you? His whippings are something else. Love this poem. Today while the Preacher was preaching, thunder and lightning roared and I thought about God speaking. ladywriter

May I quibble?

Just because you asked who was? 8) Actually, I remember reading this and cannot for the life of me think of a reason I did not comment then. Ah well, here I am now. Something hits me every so often as well. God, Universe, the ghost of my own past - whatever it is, it doesn't quit until I give it the attention it demands. Perfectly stated here. Best, Ronda
