Waiting for the Dam to Break

The morning brings its sweet sunrise
As the birds awaken to stir dreams of the sleepless
In the rising sunshine we walk alone
The night had faded quickly
And the world came back to life

Hand in hand
And heart in heart
We were the dreams that others had
Our love was as pure as the sky above us
And hope sprang in the eyes of the destroyed

Every hour passes with increasing shadows
As the emptiness of two desperate hearts filled
The blood flowed like water in a stream
And the pain subsided for the longest time
You and I had found the fountain of youth

Only love and heart ache can bring you to your knees
But beg as you may your fate never changes
Place your ear to the side
And listen to the distant screams of the past
The future is no place to place your better days

This

has a really passionate tone to it, an unbroken seam of reminiscence and deep melancholy through all the lines. the change in mood of the third stanza is a little abrupt but you certainly say what you have to say making no apologies. very memorable poem.
