The Ghostly Piper

The entwining, curling, haunting wail.

Bracken fighting against nature, through, the un-even shale.

Lamenting sweet chants of sadness.

Torturing the brain to the point of madness.

Mist conceals a barren winter moor.

This is where the piper roams, unsure

300 years faithfully guarding.

The land of his forefather’s, never resting.

Wearily searching for the wanton  glory

That which is given, shall be returned ten fold with fury.

Craving his soul to come home to rest.

Proudly protecting on his Skien do, a family crest.

Ejected from a land they dearly loved.

Killing of his kin, tears shed for they were beloved.

The soul of the piper seeks to avenge.

Angry is a heart filled with revenge.

His music is heard above the roar of an alien thunder.

The ghosted figure, musically wanders.

Aimlessly it seeking a source of release.

Desperately endeavoring, to find a lasting peace.

The music echoes, uninterrupted, in the distillation.

Through his music he cries for a Scottish nation.

Heavy is the mood that hangs.

Of the pillaging English, that attack in gangs.

Destroying in mass.

The highland un-subordinate class

But the soul of the Ghostly Piper is unable to repose.

In his raged Kilt, the destruction of the rose.

Wandering his Highlands, till the Thistle rejects the advance of the English Rose.

Till then his sweet saddened lament will be heard.

When I read it I thought it was about both that war

and the ongoing subjugation of Scotland by England. You really seem at home with your form and subject here, unsurprisingly. A really solid, yet emotional write. Just two little things, for "un-subordinate" did you mean insubordinate? And I wonder about the repetition of rose in the last 3 lines, cheers, Jess

Re the Rose

You obviously do not know the passions Of the Scots ag the English but then why would you I guess you need to be Scottish for that one. Its beating the hell out of the english emblem or rose LOL John

Oh I see

you do not respond well to even misguided criticism do you. I did say I understood it was about the ongoing subjugation of Scotland. Perhaps I should have rephrased it terms of Scotlands ongoing heroic resistance, oh, I forgot. There isn't one. cheers, Jess
