Haze of a Summer Day

The haze of a summer’s day dwindles,
the air settles as crickets stir to sing.
In the shadow of the distant hills
             menacing flames flare intrusively.

             Stretching across the horizon
             blazing ambers glowing golden orange.
Smoldering smoke rises to greet the
Stars that come out to play.

             As hot breath of anger
the wind stirs and air stiffens,
             natures chocking cry rises
while trees sway and bow down
             to the flaming fury.

             Rumbling roar of distant planes
Sway to and fro, racing to release a load
On the wall of raging flames
             determined to stand their ground
against a sea of water falling down.

             In the morning glow remains
             Of a battle lingers.
             Charred limbs stand where
             Trees did flourish
             now solemn and bare
             bent with despair.

A heart beating loud and strong
for now it is silent and cold.
Barren wasteland is all that remains
lost is a haven to friend and foe.

Haze .........

title good ,pace of poem good , the pace of the poem is like the pace of a summers day . The poem is compact , I like this very much ,so many references to so many things in so few lines ,very good indeed. I only wish I could write like this ,you have great feeling . I Look forward to reading more of your work. regards pinksheep

This is really very good,

evocative and emotional. I do find the line "Stars that come out to play." jarrs. One cliche in an otherwise strong original piece. cheers, Jess
