Diamond

Two old school lovers walk with faces covered

As the wind begins to blow, the blood begins to flow

As the beating starts to fluctuate, the old man spits at the nasty taste

Of the tongue in his mouth, one too many lies and a few lines he despised,

He wanted to throw them out

But the lessons he has learned and the ashes they have burned

All have flown away, the slightly grotesque and the unfortunately over stressed,

All have died and withered away

But their love remains, even through the obscene strains

Behind their dying skin a heart beats hard within

To show there love is strong, the entities of love with the motion of an endless song

The snow was now falling, a sweet picture,

He has won the war to hold her heart till the end

His hands are gray and wrinkled but like a diamond they will not break

The measures of love forever and the questions of her endeavor,

What steps is he to take?

He hears the cries of the past, coming now to ruin it all

The somehow over bearing figure standing and staring at his heart left in the hall

But there love will last forever like the stars in the sky

These questions of someday ending they beg themselves "why?"

She looks at him with respect and admiration

She can see it in his eyes,

Their child long gone from disease

Was there anything she could’ve done

The heart lost in the storm and a night she always morns, it will never return in time

But their hands have been through it all like a voice too scared to call

A heart that beats is a heart that loves and a heart that works is a heart that hurts

Until it beats no more

But even now being older there love will never grow colder

A love so strong nothing could go wrong

Until the end is the end

Powerful, beautiful and courageous work

A hellish difficult topic to take on and you have handled it with empathy and compassion without resorting to sentimentality. Your use of internal rhyme only adds, without seeming artifice. It could do with some editing, some lines are clunky and break the flow, but overall I applaude you cheers, Jess
