"Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" for Edith

Oui, I regret little
not the intentional cruelties,
they were intentional,
not the vicious acts
it was not an act,
not the malice aforethought
I thought about it,
none of the excesses, abuses, indulgences,
I did them
had them
loved them
suffered them

I regret the unintentional,
the faux pas,
the inconsiderations,
the utterly ruthless,
if unintentional,
act of not truly seeing another.
These things I truly regret.

And yet
non, je ne regrette rien,
I need not write at all
my life is a poem.

I can truly relate to. The intentional things really don't hurt so much, because let's face it, they are coordinated. It's the things we don't think will hurt someone else, that brings the most sorrow and usually does the most damage. Mark
