bugs have needs

I like fair backyard butterflies
and their likin’ weeds

they seem fond of flow’rin’ spearmint—
they have nectar needs—

and own both the spine and mettle
to adore the bloomin’ nettle

A challenge

These more recent works of yours, so concise yet meaningful, make me want to see you write in haiku cheers, Jess

Plugging Away

Hey, now! I'm still plugging away at my own (renegade) style ... and without throwing a monkey (and his) wrench into the works (woks?) to complicate things further. Thanx for the suggestion, though. In the meantime, I'll be out back challenging the (what I think is) edible wild greenery. As usual, yours, Chuckles

oh man

I wish i could grow edible geenery. Unfortunately and fortunately a huge gum tree prohibits anthing but native plants and a proliferation of birdlife in my garden, especially kookaburras. One has not lived or laughed until one has heard the lucid yet deliriously mischievous laugh of a kookaburra. Did I say there was a drawback in my supermarket? cheers, Jess

I Haven't Been Clear, I Guess

I don't (that is, I do not ever) grow edible greenery. I neither water nor care for my backyard edibles. They do just fine wild and on their own. And I mostly avoid supermarkets. What I eat is native. Most of it going nameless. Mrs. Woodchuck, esp. through spring and early summer, has pointed me---though by her, I'm sure, inadvertently---to edible native plants. Squirrels and birds help in that regard, too. I've now learned enough from various animals that I can tell on sight (sometimes with aid of feel and/or smell) whether a plant is edible---and I delight in trusting those intuitions. Every meal becomes an adventure. Life is good. Yours, Chuckles PS: To say it all sparely: What other people call weeds ... I call food.
