To the Girl in the Gallery

I want to take you to the centre of the thousand little statues
and make love above their watching eyes.
I want to take you round the gallery,
show me your feelings,
I’ll show you mine.
I want to take you to my dingy room
and make love on the floor,
under the naked globe.
I want to take you.
I want to ask you your name.
I want to take you to my friends
and see you shy or sparkling.
I want you to take me to your friends
and see you proud or shamed.
I want to love you and teach you and feed on you.
I want you to love me and want me and stay with me.
I want you to use me and tire of me.
I want to hold on silently pleading,
knowing not knowing its all over.
I want you to hurt me and leave me and come back
and hurt me and leave me and come back
and hurt me and leave me and come back
until you are finally really gone.
I want to hurt and cry
and want to die.
Then I want to go to the gallery, again.

True

Love poems are the hardest and most likely to be Hallmarky. The easiest poems to write are the depressing ones, so I avoid them like the plague. Seperating a woman from her panties? Of course, why the hell else does any bloke become an artist? Forgive me female readers but it is largely true, apart, of course from that inner demon or muse that makes it an absolute imperative to make art.

sincere

Hi Weirdelf, I wonder if this was written at a chance meeting, an instant flirtation, or if you knew this woman. You speak the language and the pleadings of poets here, and the effect is sincere and understandable, it doesn't reek of arrogance, it is humble and poignant.

Thanks Conect, appreciate

Thanks Conect, appreciate your comments. Re: did I know her? Did you see the line "I want to ask you your name."? By the way, it was infatuation at first sight. I never even spoke to her.

ahh!

I suspected infatuation, but wanted to make sure. We've all had moment. (repeatedly)I didn't know if "I want to ask your name" was literal, or figurative for getting to know someone better.

Me too… Emarie…. me too.

Me too... Emarie.... me too. Doesn't every woman want this kind of passion if she is honest with herself? I have never settled for less... though i stayed with my x when it was gone for my children's and finances sake. However, my passion is always just beneath the surface... like lava. It's going to take a hell of a man to bring it out in person... he would have to be true to himself, like I'm finally learning to be. ~A

It would be so good,

a beer with Rett, philosophy with Chuck, a spiritual meeting with Anna, just to meet the finest poet I know, Orgami, I can't name everyone but there is a lot of love here and would love to meet you all. (there are 5 pages of my buddy list, so even though I know I can be obnoxious I do care) cheers, Jess
