Winter's Bitter Wrath

We see them under every bride we pass...

In a box in every alley we may look down..

These are the places that they live in the day and in the night..

Being forced to dig and beg for food in ways we would never even think..

Could they of once been the neighbor we have have forgotten that was always a help..

Maybe the best friend from school that was the only one that allowed us to be ourselves..

Are they the co worker that got fired from a job that was always by our side.

For these are the ones that winter's bitter wrath is the hardest on..

Yet we say in the winter how cold "we" are  cold and that we need to go in to get warm.

We can bundle up into warmer clothes..

We can sit in front of a warm burning fire in our fire place..

We can even curl up under our favorite blanket with a cup of hot chocolate..

We are lucky to have all these choices..

They have none of them..

Some of them were forced to make the choices they did to get them in the places where they are. .

Others are the fogotton one that fault the wars so that we could be where we are..

Which ones they are should not make a differece to us.

They are just the same as you and me no matter who they are..

They deserve to be rememberd and be cared for..

With not enough places to go in this winter's bitter wrath they must face..

We can only pray they will be warm enough till tomorrow.

Ive rated this 5

I enjoyed this a lot Cathy thanks. Quite deep and cold (like my own poems sometimes are) but also uplifting. It's good to read some truth on this website. I will be back. (hopeless) Joey Cunningham Lennox

So true

I had an early start from the plant this AM at 4:50. Looked like a great morning - I would be finished early and it was payday around 8 AM. On my way to southeren NH I noticed ice on the trees. By the time I started my route I realized I was in an ice storm. Me and my little Toyota Tercel. Half way through I drove into a pre - kinderkarten and slid off the lot into a ditch and a tree stopped me from falling 15 feet. i made my delevery of news papers to the door and slip slided, fell and got up repeatedly on the wat to the seteet. I was picked up fast when hitch hiking to the nearest town. When I got there I spent the next 2.5 hours outside standing and waiting for my savior to arive. it was around 20 degrees and with no money, not having eaten, no gloves, no tobacco (an addict) nothing to drink - no place to go, I was reminded . . . I was reminded of a time when I had nothing but the attitude of "I will never give up" but at that moment at 7 AM I experienced that feeling of winters bitter wrath and for a moment it was there once again. Lucky for me I had a savior - my boss. He arrived at 7:30 and with his suv pulled out my car and I continued on my way. Powerlines were down traffic lights out, streets closed, schools closed, parts of trees on the road and fires in branches touching powerlines. I am truly grateful for your writing Cathy - It takes me so many places . . . Thanks Cathy, Mark

Winter's Bitter Wrath

This is a real joy to come across. I love the way that you have structured this - almost bordering prose, yet still maintaining a poetic laguage. The language is simple yet effective, you make the theme universal yet heartfelt.

Very nice poem

I enjoyed reading your poem. What you wrote is very true. I too think of the ones who dont have nowhere to go especially in the coldest winters.

This so so true!

Hi Cathy This is so true, words fail me at this time, but do promise to comment at a later stage. It is a very good wite and very thought provoking. Many many thanks Feebie Mistakes happen, do not dwell on them, live them, mourn them and move on to better things. (PS: if that does not work eat lots and lots of chocolate)
