Sitting Near the Lantana Bush

Bees and butterflies mingle
on the Lantana bush.

I can't tell if they are busy,
or capering on the job.

The Lantana is bright,
orange, yellow -

a fiesta. I imagine
spirited dancing,

singing just
beneath its blooms,

perhaps celebrating
the crowning of the

Queen Bee.
It is late summer.

We are all together -
the bees, the butterflies

and I, happy in this
moment as a single

male hummingbird
swaggers along,

bedazzled by the
glory of the day.
