Stag Night
The nights are long, and the days are short now
While winter winds echo across the land
Tonight the king will return as is planned
With a frosty touch on a silent bough
There by the fire I chant the sacred words
Amid inky sigils and corvine birds
And the gods of Sun return to my heart
If winter should bring yet more ice and snow
In their blessed warmth and love I will stand
A warrior touched by the ancient hand
To see their magic in the arcane glow
That carries the soul as the long nights drag
The Sun’s return the sweetest counterpart
On this path of mine, the path of the stag

About Me
I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
I am a neo-formalist poet preferring to write in meter and form than free verse but I am beginning to learn to relax and let the feel and sound of words take over rather than be dictated to by rigid rules and structure. However, I will still argue that a sonnet without consistent meter ain’t a sonnet and Lewis Turco’s Book of Form is never far from me.
