Fading Mask

My only escape is inside.
Nothing is left, not even pride.
A sad clown, sulking in despair.
Lost in a thought, a dead man's stare.
No more joy in an act played out,
Drowning sorrow with bitter stout.
Lost it all, there is no healing.
Gun in hand, I paint the ceiling.

Nevermore

The devil is a dreamer
She comes in many a disguise
You'd know her if you saw her
Daughter of the Dead

Eyes filled with grief
Watery and blue
A colorless complexion
Transparent against a sunshine day

Daddy's Little Girl
Fanged fury of the night
By blood and bedroom
She was his princess, his queen
Took her innocence
Made her his muse

She'd lay down for him
But not for another
No one could compare once he'd gone
No one to fill the void he left

SLEEPLESS DAYDREAM

Another day opens its flower
revealing her heart to the sky
that space eternal, dark.

What specks of dust are we
when measured in proportion to the whole
however small, our egos fill the all
all knowledge stored inside our brain, its busy fret
until one day its closing bud becomes
one again with all the matter of this universe.

I wish

I wish I had
x-ray eyes
to see straight
through the
best disguise

I wish I had a heart
of steel--
you can't hurt if
you don't
feel

I wish my soul was
dark not light
maybe then I'd
hide from
sight

I wish my nature
was less
forgiving
for then I could
be anger
driven

I wish my skin
was rough
and tough
because for now
I've had
enough

D E S U L T O R I U S

carouse damp bright
heavy hearted this dance
floating nimble limbed

our wicked waters wend
appetite whetted
strands of history swallowed
beneath the hurtful pity
of our time

chilled brilliant
our love stalled like a sigh
the words begging beyond
the crowd

drape a touch beneath
depths
falling
leaping in grief

CATTLE CHUTE

launched into incarceration
the dealer plays the womb
a new beggar gestates

coalescence weaves the mortal wreath
then kicked awake
to the preachers wail
bending prophesy to fit the ear

plasticine matrix
the cast is set
innocent eyes, thick as wood
place first steps upon the range

sentence obscure

lockdown
under cultures taste
round round circles
wear mind thin, numb
with why?

Choiceless
laden limbs form
losses bemoaned
as flies hover

GEISHA GIRLS

The winds of winter, gone,
green shoots fan their buds,
the geisha girls of spring are here,
they flaunt their powers,
seduction of the many who admire,
they capture our attention
with their delicate attire,
entice our participation in their dance,
each moment of the day they decorate,
enhance, what would the rivers do
without these ushers by their sides,
the fish need shade, protection from the sun;
so varied in design, of different shape and size,
every one a picture worth, they make the scene

Prodigal Son...

A woman waits by the gate
No one comes to see her

Time doesn’t heal all the hurt

Life seems as though it’s just fate
She’s never had it’s measure

Always felt like dirt

Children’s grins and twinkled eyes
Brings near to a face of stone

A faint and somewhat smile

More than enough time gone by
She has been so much alone

Been way too long a while

Longing heart trips a hammer beat
Eyes crinkle in disbelief

The prodigal son returns

A couple of Mother's Day poems

·

To All Motherless Children on Sunday

Let's take our fondest
memory, and walk with
her once more.
Follow the lilac, peony or
cherry blossom scents
home,
then close the front door.

For Helen.
