Harmattan Poems I-V

I

Everything is in
a state of gradual decline:
our conversations
taper off the anticline
and dwindle into silence.

II
With time the music
will get on your bloody nerves:
your lips will bleed and
kisses taste like rusted nails;
speech will be spare and thirsty

III
We've spent our old days
swiping through false memories
by frigid windows
wet with tears, or sometimes rain;
should we go outside to dry?

TIME MACHINE

The old man sits there in his chair.
He's tired of sitting but he knows
it hurts to rise and go elsewhere
so he stays ... the blue ink flows.

By writing he can turn back time
to a past when he was young and hale
and gave no thought to verse or rhyme
or the telling of a long life's tale.

On paper his mind is young and free,
a five mile jaunt just a short walk.
He goes anywhere he'd like to be
be it a stroll or careful stalk.

In Sight...

The doors open and I walk through
Alice in Wonderland and Christmas Village
Warmly dressed people come into view
Furs and boots, vikings out to pillage

Intent on their mission, present religion

They give themselves away, secret identities
Convinced they are hiding in plain sight
Cargo jackets and pants to their knees
I know who they are and that's not right

Good boys and girls, Mother's pearls

voices in my head

Voices in my head makes me think about things I dread.
Maybe I should take my Meds and go lay down on the bed.
Man my head feels like its full of lead and when I close my eyes
all I see is red. If wasn't such a hothead maybe I wouldn't
feel like I am dead. Maybe I was really mislead by some meat head.
Man I wish I would just went and ate some cornbread instead.

Lay

the rain drips
sweet sonnets
hes exhausted
his girl far from home
his boots and clothes
shoved under
the bed
Old habits
the ceilings
sparking through
the blinds
like soft diamonds
thinks of her hand
that ring
smiles and smokes
stubs the butt
in the empty bottle
just enough to
soak
hairs greasy
beard unkempt
eyes bloodshot
from the nights
not slept
Pins in his leg
aching
like his spine
but hes not
whinning

In Silence

In silence,
the trees quench their thirst
while their leaves gather
to celebrate nature's kindness
as a starving snake slithers,
seeking its prey
to appease its hunger
at the end of the day.

Of Birth

A one-man army,
Foes being two hundred millions,
I won in an hour;
With no shield, no sword, no guns,
I built a realm in ten months.

A one-man kingdom,
All the gates and doors being locked,
I ate, drank and danced;
With no friend, no foe, no kin,
I slumbered all day and night.

A Life in a cell,
Seven heavens being in there,
I drooled for more lands;
With no mission, no vision,
I dreamed to build an empire.

DEADENDZING

curve the tracks
the idling
the burnt outbulb
on a front porch
plants and a glider
inside the clock
ticks
in the bedroom
he rides her
his homie watchs
time on the
citizens bend
watching clouds
crawl
their way
the wend
beneath
him she cries
she moans
she sweats
and the tv
in the living
room
tells them
the worlds
coming to an
end
Skylines like
a joker
inside the
car
he inhales
a toker

The moon ran for shade

It's not so bad
but, certainly sad
to see the moon fade
running for shade
swiftly behind dark clouds.

spiritual rv in heaven

When you go earlier,
or follow
take some snacks
biscuits and coffee
you know I like it

God’s stalls may not open
for a very long time
and
Bards you and me
will be left out of line
