In The Window

Confronted again by

The sideways, disdainful look

Of a father who is

Disappointed in his son.

Looking in the window of a happy life

I see my wife and children play and laugh,

But I am outside.

The happiness is not mine.

Bloody to the knuckles

Desperately I try to break

The wall of bottles I drank

Lies I told, comfort I sought

Ocean of Grief

Grief is a roller coaster,
emotions rising and falling
like waves upon the sea.

Smiles hiding silent screams,
masking misty eyes,
only to break open
in moments of solitude,
in the dark shadows of night.

Tears fall quietly,
clearing space
for the next sunrise...

Without the anchor in your life,
you drift
missing the warm voice,
the gentle support,
the life that ought to have been lived.

NIGHT STORM (metaphor shop 4th exercise)

Howls and moan sound in the eves
on this October night
like a lost soul when it grieves
from that plane beyond sight.

Or are these things coming from me
as I remember long gone friends
who've reached their eternity
in a hunting ground which never ends?

I rub my eyes where twin streams flow
swollen creeks from thoughts of loss
when will my storm cease to grow
when will my dreams not make me toss ?

Blessings (Metaphor WS #4)

May I offer you the warm hug of the sunlight
to be the cradle of the hopes that you seek?
Let the wind carry my love to you tonight
to be your light when the face of fate is bleak.

Be Your Poetry (Hiding in Metaphor) # 4

Be the character
you want to be,
let your words
speak out loudly,
chant with rhythms
your melody
with rhyming verses
or of rhyme's free,

be yourself
be your poetry.

Entities of Time (Metaphor WS #3)

In the vast fabric of space
where the stars are diamonds of the universe,
life and death are represented in a greater scale
within the great devourer and a new planet's birth.

One, very dark and foreboding,
so powerful with its mighty pull
that all that comes within its reach
will be reduced to a minuscule.

The other is the beginning
of a new life's chapter,
woven by the hands of fate,
with the will of the Creator

Joey's like a sea monkey. (poem with metaphors)

Joey was a private eye.
His gun was black as coal
and everywhere that Joey went
the gun would seek a soul.

He dropped a man the other day.
He does this quite a lot.
Just self defense was all he’d say
while stuffing graveyard plots.

Couldn’t help himself he’d say
and then another one,
but he was savvy, Joey’s way
and he’ll be never done.

When Fire Flares (Metaphor Workshop) #3

She sat there
waiting for warmth
to conquer the place;

a rampaging dragon
blew to inflame the space,

the fervent
shackled demons
rage with glaring blaze
then nothing works
to let them free

HIGH TIDE (emotion shop with and without metaphors and similes)

The waves are not too large today
as the tide rolls slowly in.
They advance than they go away
then turn and march back in again.

And the breakers barely break
when they do they hardly produce foam.
Perhaps only for sand fleas' sake
which surface then burrow in their home.

The waves feel warm on my bare feet
their salt leaves rime upon my lips
and as each wave slowly retreats
my toes curl as sand shifts and slips.

Trapped In Space (For Metaphor Workshop)

How did I get here,
floating like a balloon?

Gasping,
I reached out
but there was nothing
I stared
at the vast realm
of space,
surrounded by
clustered stars
planets and galaxies,
near and far.

Each of them making me feel
like a tiny speck of dust
as I wandered aimlessly.
There is no up or down,
not a single sound.
I called out for help
but there is no reply
so I cried like a child,
gripped by panic and fear.
