Mycelium Monks
Throughout the rainy season
Mushrooms emerge from the soil
Beside mighty trees and from our own lawns
Thriving wherever there's moisure
Bringing traffic to the forest in the shape of orange-vested foragers
With a basket in one hand and Opinel knife in the other
Some looking for garnishes for their steaks
And others out for a quick buck
Beneath a cloister of moss or salal
Lucky chanterelles may be spared
Sequestered away like monks in Tibet or the Alps
Growing as much as they can before returning to the Earth

"Christmas 2024" by @Ruby Lord
"This is a really funny little poem, the rhymes could make it work as a song. You get straight to the point and really capture a lot of the anxieties that many of us experience with Christmas" -

"I did enjoy this. It confirms what I learned not too long ago and my understanding of the "woodwide web" a phrase formed by the German forester Peter Wohlleben. Ruby xxx :)" -

"Morning Covenant" by @Michael Anthony
"As somebody who actually enjoys calendars it's interesting to see the perspective of somebody who doesn't. I love the detail of the Pacific Wrens, I'm also an avid bird watcher. I love the title, it's eye catching but v…" -

"You really capture the essence of toxic relationships. I love how you show how people get sucked into one in the first half then provide hope of breaking free in the second." -

"Hello! A concrete and inspiring ode. The rhyme pattern is tight, ababcde, I'll agree with AI that the rhythm is off a bit in some lines, but it still flows smoothly when read aloud, and has natural pauses. The stanzas a…" -

About Me
After several years of trying to get short stories published I've decided to try my luck with poetry instead. So far I've had a poem published in Writerly and an essay and poem published in separate editions of an annual local writers' anthology my local library does. Some of my other hobbies include raising bonsai trees, collecting postcards, mixing cocktails, raising mason and leafcutter bees, and shopping local
