Earth Song
Harken now
as the westerly wind softly intones a low
mournful dirge.
While the reeds at the water’s edge
pick up the sad refrains
and over them
they transpose their quavering
illusionary measures.
Broken up occasionally by a discordant sigh.
The birds passing by
pause a moment
as they listen crestfallen
to the slow, sorrowful lament.
Which they keep time to
Read the rest of the poem Show less
with a dull thrumming of the wings.
And a sweet blending-over
of fading trills.
Which becomes barely perceptible
amidst the echo-booms
of the loud thundercloud drums.
And the intermittent tinkling sound
of the raindrops.
As they pelt the leaves
on the musical tree of magical colors.
Which having once danced
and enjoyed life and freedom so much
now stands condemned.
Hopelessly rooted
to this one solitary spot.
And so it droops over
with dampened spirits.
As it beholds the birds,
the wind, the reeds
and all the other players
in this lonely cheerless pastoral.
Trying to recall a time
when it didn’t once glance backwards
and think of things precious
that were
but are no more.
While the grey, somber sky
conductor
of this orchestrated
remembrance
soothes
their saddened spirits
by serenading them
with a melodious rainbow.
Which heralds
the promise of a new day.
When all of nature
will once again
sing in tune.

About Me
I am a patient, romantic, creative writer/artist that loves to move people with his words. I have been writing since the age of 18. My writing career first began with a bittersweet love poem dedicated to the girl of my dreams. I've published one book so far, which has since gone out of print. A book of poetry and artwork called, Sipping Nectar with The Gods. My work has appeared online and in a few printed publications. For the most part, I am a loner, but I do love to hang out with friends and family when I can, or when I'm invited. I write for others basically, and I know that may sound strange. But it's how I try to give something back. By writing things that I know others will enjoy. I hope I can continue that tradition in this forum.
Location: New Jersey
I'm really not into contemporary poetry too much. I only prefer reading the old masters. Keats
Byron
Shelley
Wordsworth
Rilke
Tennyson
Shakespeare
Twain
Dickens
Joseph Campbell
Robert Graves
and Jim Morrison.
I know
Jim Morrison is not an old master per sey
but it was his poetry and the music he created with the other members of the band known as the Doors
that first inspired me to start writing. Jim Morrison and Shakespeare are the two biggest influences on why I write and my particular style to some degree.
