What is it to be me?
To be us?
To drift haplessly through an indefinite infinity,
"Blessed" by the niggling plague of mortality.
Are we fireflies in daylight?
Drenched, drowned in dazzling starshine,
yet starved of simple, supple moonglow,
or the littered, abandoned seeds
of a universal tree ever blooming, full magnificent,
its branches throbbing with the pulse of time.
Perhaps that explains our eager desperation,
for the slightest nibble at the pap of life,
as it dangles above tantalisingly close,
the scent of its dripping juices ablaze

Yet what of the stained shells piling below?
Stacked close enough to feel the mass earthworm squirm,
air thick with pungent, decaying dreams.
Will we realise that the same fruit lies within?
That before scrambling to rise above
we must relinquish and stretch below,
intertwine our roots and sprout united, anew.
Or will our season pass with no flowers in sight?
Just a few buds at the surface, struggling to stay upright.
Will we end as flies, consumed by fire-fight?
Fluttering to the ground, unable to stay alight.
... was this always our destiny?
Nothing but land-krill to the placid, gaping maw of the earth?
Either way the pulse of time remains steady,
A different branch stirs, a fresh rhythm rouses,
The tree seeds once again,
Sap trickles to the ground.
But will the next of us see what the last could not?
drooping Tears, shed not of misery but of sorrow,
Sweat sticky, borne of exhausting anticipation,
life-Blood of an ancient, eager to be replaced.

"Excellent job. It’s a very deep thinker and I’m going to have to get back in there and pick some lines out that struck me. Excellent flow, well organized. I’ll be back again. Welcome to the site and well done, Tim" -
