Little Lies
I lived life through the eyes
Of a child,
None of the fathers loved
Such wild things—
They loved the lies more
Again, I must recall
(all) those lonely nights
I stockpiled like
Baseball cards in mint condition
With only the seasons
For gratitude
Because treason was merely
A wish from the civilians
Who never possessed
The strength to…
Love again.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem's strongest moment is the baseball cards image — stockpiling lonely nights in mint condition carries a quiet, painful irony that feels earned, and the detail is specific enough to anchor what is otherwise fairly abstract emotional territory. The closing movement, from treason through civilians to the final two words, also has real ambition in its logic: it suggests that betrayal is something the powerless can only fantasize about, which is an interesting and somewhat original thought.
The main area that needs work is the poem's reliance on large, unearned abstractions — wild things, treason, civilians, strength, love — stacked close together without the grounding that the baseball cards image provides. When so many weightless nouns appear in sequence, the emotional force that the poem is clearly reaching for dissipates rather than builds. A useful revision move would be to ask, for each abstraction, whether a concrete image or action could carry the same meaning: what did those fathers actually do or fail to do, what did the lying look like, what did loving again cost or require? The parenthetical (all) also feels like a hesitation the poem has not yet decided what to do with — either lean into the interruption formally or cut it, because as it stands it registers as uncertainty rather than craft.
