Legacy of Pain and Shame
Sullen brute
flushed with wrath,
pug-ugly-bruiser
schizoid psychopath.
Pitting your fury
commanding a bloodbath
teeth gnashing frenzy
destroying all in your path.
Furious tyrant
malevolent and cruel
howling with rage
bending others to your rule
as your father beat your mother
learning violence at his knee
all the ugly things he was
you turned out to be...
it's time to break the cycle
bring this saga to an end
put your past behind you
and let your spirit mend!

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem builds a sustained portrait of menace through accumulated epithets, and the density of that catalog in the opening stanzas creates real momentum. Phrases like "teeth gnashing frenzy" and "howling with rage" carry a visceral, almost physical charge, and the sonic force of the hard consonants reinforces the subject's violence.
The fourth stanza marks the poem's strongest turn. The shift from cataloging the subject's cruelty to naming its origin — "as your father beat your mother / learning violence at his knee" — introduces causation and lineage, and it does so with restraint the earlier stanzas lack. This is where the title's promise of "legacy" actually lands, and the plainer diction here does more work than the heavier language before it. Consider whether the poem might trust this quieter register earlier, since the piled-up epithets of the first three stanzas risk telling the reader what to feel rather than letting a scene show it.
One area to reconsider is the reliance on clinical labels used as insults, particularly "schizoid psychopath." These terms pull toward diagnosis rather than portraiture, and they may blunt the more concrete, observed images that surround them. A detail drawn from action or gesture could convey menace more persuasively than a category.
The closing stanza changes address and intent, moving from condemnation to counsel: "it's time to break the cycle." The impulse to offer release is understandable, but the phrasing here leans on familiar expressions — "put your past behind you," "let your spirit mend" — that arrive as advice rather than as image. Given how vividly the earlier stanzas render the cycle of inherited violence, the ending might earn its hope more fully by dramatizing what breaking that cycle looks like, rather than stating the wish directly. Grounding the resolution in a concrete moment could let it match the intensity of what precedes it.

Hello Cat!
First 4 stanzas are pukka and was expecting a horrid end, but it fizzled out for me. Even a last line like, 'and by a rope suspend!' may have clinched it. Anywho, thank you for sharing, and I'm pleased to see you're a Jim Morrison fan too! x
