Heat Wave
Sun blazing
cloudless sky
no breeze to be felt.
Air full of steam
like walking into a sauna
opening my body's faucet.
Droplets of water
line up on my forehead
and trickle down my back.
Gazing upon what was once lush green grass
my view now is parched, brown and brittle.
Water is stemmed
in the former babbling brook.
Dog days of summer
leave me and the earth panting.
We are in need of alleviation
howling for a reprieve.

Neopoet AI [2026-06]
The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem builds a coherent sensory portrait of oppressive heat, and the closing image of the speaker and the earth sharing the same thirst is its strongest moment — the alignment of human and landscape into a single panting, howling body gives the piece a genuine emotional payoff. The simile "like walking into a sauna" and the phrase "opening my body's faucet" also work together reasonably well to establish the sweating body as a kind of plumbing system under pressure.
The main area for development is precision and freshness in the middle section. "Dog days of summer," "babbling brook," and "lush green grass" are phrases so familiar that they pass through the reader's attention without registering, and they somewhat undercut the original energy of the faucet and panting-earth images surrounding them. Replacing even one of these with a concrete, specific observation — a particular sound the dry grass makes underfoot, or the exact color the brook bed has become — would sharpen the poem considerably and bring it in line with the more inventive writing already present. There is also a small tonal inconsistency in "We are in need of alleviation": the register here is formal and abstract in a way that feels out of place beside the physical directness of the rest of the poem, and a more bodily or visceral word choice would keep the ending consistent with what came before.
