Pain Killer
Killer Pain
Upon us this pain, self-inflicted, never forced. This pain we feed daily, ultimately by choice.
Denying our heart's healing. How shall it mend? Grief seems complex when life has yet to end.
It burns, this pain, I harbor inside. The solution is death, death of ego and pride.
Kill them, bury them, never again to breathe. Kill them to set the broken heart free.
Your heart will open, eager to receive this killer called love. Yeah, the killer of this grief.
Upon us this pain, self-inflicted, never forced. This pain we feed daily, ultimately by choice.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem carries a genuine and worthwhile insight at its center: that grief is prolonged by ego and pride, and that love functions as the agent of their dissolution. That paradox, a killer that heals, is the poem's strongest conceptual move, and the word "killer" doing double duty across the title and the closing lines gives the piece a satisfying structural echo.
The main obstacle to the poem's full effect is its presentation as a single unparagraphed block of prose, which flattens the rhythm and makes it hard for the reader to feel the line breaks working. The poem gestures toward rhyme in places, "breath" and "free," "receive" and "grief," but these pairings are buried mid-sentence rather than given space to land. Separating the lines and tightening the punctuation would let those sounds resonate as intended. There is also a small but noticeable inconsistency worth addressing: "never again to breath" should be "breathe," and the shift between first-person plural "us," "we" and first-person singular "I harbor inside" creates a slight wobble in the speaker's stance. Committing fully to one or the other would strengthen the poem's voice considerably.
