Until the Cosmos Speaks
"until the cosmos speaks"
A shimmering constellation behind the Eyes
throbs in the temples, a slow and heavy rhythm
—not an ailment, but a cosmos waking up.
Headache: that’s what they call
the pressure of existence,
that insistent sense of language
pushing through the skull.
It is the poetic inevitability of the word,
a solar system burning in grey matter,
each pulse an asteroid, a path
for letters that have nowhere else to go.
Star‑patterns of pure pressure tighten,
a milky way of unspoken lines behind the eye.
The brain is too small for the infinity of being,
so the universe cracks open in glorious pain.
You seek the dark,
the quiet, the empty,
but inside, the constellation
keeps shining: existence insisting,
star after star, until the cosmos speaks
and silence breaks.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem's central conceit — a headache reframed as a cosmos forcing language into being — is genuinely interesting, and the opening stanza lands it well. "A shimmering constellation behind the Eyes / throbs in the temples, a slow and heavy rhythm" earns its metaphor because the physical sensation and the cosmic image are held in close, credible tension. The move in the second stanza to name the thing plainly — "Headache: that's what they call" — before immediately undercutting the clinical label is a smart structural choice that gives the poem some wit and momentum.
The difficulty is that from the third stanza onward the poem keeps restating the same claim rather than deepening it, and the cosmic vocabulary begins to accumulate without doing new work. "Solar system," "asteroid," "star-patterns," "milky way," "constellation," "universe," "cosmos" — the sheer density of these terms crowds out specificity, and the images start to feel interchangeable rather than precise. A single, well-developed astronomical image sustained through the poem's second half would carry more force than many loosely stacked ones. The closing stanza reaches for resolution with "silence breaks," but because the poem has been insisting on the same idea throughout, the ending reads as repetition rather than arrival. Cutting or consolidating the middle stanzas, and trusting one image to do the work of several, would tighten the poem considerably and let the strong opening finally pay off.
