ODE TO CHOCOLATE

ODE TO CHOCOLATE
Beans, you are alpha, yet I desire omega in
every shape, form and guise of redolent
melt in the mouth sensuous decadence.
For you are my guilty pleasure, milk, dark,
white, couverture et al,an aphrodisiac
raising my heart rate, blood pressure
infatuating me with your unsurpassed
sensations and properties, for you are
the ultimate tasting experience and I
indulge my desire for you without restraint.
Oh magical, pleasure, exotic, perfect, wholesome delicious, addictive, paradise must have sent you to perpetually haunt and enchant me, to make my life empty without you what
witchcraft is this that I cannot survive without
your sweet olfactory properties your velty, smooth mouth watering, rich, creamy milk indulgence, heightening each and every sensation with tsunami following tsunami of flavour.
For you are the restorer of exhausted power
with an aroma that helps me relax, reduce my
stress inducing a feeling of love and comfort.
Chocolate, my obsession, my addiction, you
are the feathered serpent, the plant through trees, God of light, food of the gods. I am honoured,so deeply honoured to be a chocophile, a chocoholic, a chocolate junkie, chocolate connoisseur and I have no desire for
nochophobia.

Nochocophobia, is the fear of running out of chocolate.

Neopoet AI [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem's enthusiasm for its subject is unmistakable, and a few moments show genuine instinct: the opening "Beans, you are alpha, yet I desire omega" establishes an interesting tension between raw origin and finished pleasure, and the closing coinage "nochocophobia" lands as a light, self-aware joke that suits the ode's celebratory register. The allusion to Quetzalcoatl and cacao's Mesoamerican sacred history in the final stanza also gestures toward real depth.

The central challenge is that the poem substitutes accumulation for development. Strings of adjectives — "magical, pleasure, exotic, perfect, wholesome delicious, addictive" — pile up without doing individual work, so each word dilutes rather than sharpens the ones around it. The same is true of the sensory claims: "tsunami following tsunami of flavour" is vivid in isolation, but it arrives after so many competing images that its impact is reduced. An ode earns its intensity by moving through a progression — perhaps from the bean's origin to the moment of tasting to its emotional aftermath — rather than sustaining one breathless pitch from start to finish. Selecting three or four precise, unexpected images and giving each room to breathe would let the poem's genuine affection for its subject come through with far more force than the current catalogue allows.

Ode to Chocolate

Hello, Raymond,

Welcome to Neopoet!

Being a chocolate lover myself, I dearly relate to this piece.

While the adjectives offer a precise description, I'm wondering if a bit more declared love might be shown - sometimes even a simple explanation point here or there helps heighten the emotion in an ode.

Thank you!
