Crevice

My love dug a crevice in the mountain of my life.
A highway.
Each meander symbolising you and me, us,
Woven into branches of time

Then, one perfect day, our crevice, our time span,
So deeply entwined,
stood still
for me

And what I knew, what we’d planned, me: I was fractured
New branches forced upon an unwilling.
Unfamiliar paths diagonal to  those we dreamed.

One breath
Half the energy
Half of me that was you and yours.

And it was mountainous, the knife edge.
It was a choice without choice
Because my breathing continued
The chasm widened
Each day further away from the day when life fractured
without you.

Birthdays, anniversaries, births, books, films, travel, laughter -
Without you,
My co planner.
Where do I go from here?
