demise at the well
"Demise of the Well"
It is a quiet execution, parsec by parsec.
The gravity that once held our bones to the deck
does not snap like a cable; it simply starves,
fading from a brilliant, crushing architecture
into the weak, extending centrifugal implosion
of unremembered tremor.
Out here, the well has finally dried—
and we watch, in the weightless dark,
as the very law that bound us to your centre
silently folds its hands and dies.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem's central conceit — gravitational decay as a kind of slow execution — is handled with genuine control. The opening line earns its abstraction because what follows grounds it physically: bones, a deck, a cable. "It simply starves" is the best moment in the piece, capturing diminishment as a process rather than an event, and it lands cleanly against the more elaborate language around it. The closing image of the law folding its hands is quiet and strange in a way that suits the poem's tone.
The middle section loses some of that precision. "Weak, extending centrifugal implosion" is scientifically muddled — centrifugal force and implosion pull in opposite directions, and while poetry is not physics, the confusion feels unintentional rather than purposeful, and it stalls the momentum the poem has built. "Unremembered tremor" also works harder than it needs to; the line before it already conveys fading, so the addition reads as reinforcement rather than discovery. Tightening that stanza, or committing more fully to what is physically and emotionally strange about centrifugal force specifically, could resolve the tension between the poem's two registers — the technical and the elegiac — and let them reinforce each other rather than compete.
