Summer Night
The last gold hues, when day must rest,
settle beneath the stars.
Thinned clouds move on toward east from west,
like traveling reservoirs.
The silhouettes of brimming trees
appear against the skies,
while graceful lights twinkle with ease -
pirouetting fireflies.
There is a gentle song now heard,
a quiet lullaby.
It sings to us without a word,
a hushed, reflective sigh.
And I, I watch the eve unfold
into a soft twilight,
caught in this wonder to behold -
this peaceful summer night.

I can see...
that summer night unfolding in my mind.
I used to love when we would go to my in-laws up in New Hampshire and Massachusetts for a week during the summer; a rural area and the fireflies were amazing. I haven't seen that many since I was a kid.
I like the easy way this was written, and I could hear the cooing of the doves and maybe the soft hoot of an owl.
I found this soothing, and in my mind, relived a few minutes of sitting by the campfire, smelling the woodsmoke and watching the fireflies while burning a couple of marshmallows. Ummmm... Nice, ~ Geez.

Hello, Geezer,
It sounds like you have some wonderful memories of summer nights! It seems there were a lot more fireflies when we were young.
Kudos to whomever chose this image!

I love
how descriptive this piece is, and how beautifully it rhymed. The flow and pacing coupled with the imagery makes this poem all together lovely, and helps the reader see this summer night vividly.
Excellent work
