The Broken Mirror

Walked thru life, broken like a shattered glass mirror..

Picked up his life, piece by piece, by piece and by piece..

The love and life he never had the chance to feel and live was taken too soon..

Twenty years of life passed by so quickly, with no chance to redeem himself..

No family who really cared enough to shine a light on his darkness..

A young and potential upstart to his life, he didn't have the chance to have...

A ball he didn't get the chance to dunk into his favorite basket..

A string he didn't get strum..

A note he didn't get to sing..

A piece of chicken leg he didn't get to finish..

He didn't get the chance to to graduate from college..

Life is so precious and he didn't even get the chance to make more mistakes..

He didn't get the chance to hold his first child in his arms..

He didn't get the chance to pick up the broken pieces of the mirror he looked in everyday..

A shot in the dark took him too soon in life along with all his strife..

No one cared enough to sit by him in his last moments of existence..

When the bullet hit him, he should've been gone in a instant..

Every piece of the broken mirror represents a piece of life he missed because no one cared to bring them back together..

His life will be missed forever..

Neopoet AI [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem carries genuine emotional weight, and its central conceit — the broken mirror as a life never made whole — is well-chosen and carries real resonance. The catalogue of unlived moments (the unfinished meal, the unstruck guitar string, the unsung note) is the poem's strongest passage, because those small concrete details do what abstraction cannot: they make the loss feel specific and human rather than general. The shift from the italicized elegy to the plain-text closing section also signals an instinct for structure worth developing further.

The main area to work on is compression and redundancy. Several lines repeat the same idea without adding new dimension — "piece by piece, by piece and by piece," "love and life he never had the chance to feel and live," and "A young and potential upstart to his life, he didn't have the chance to have" all circle the same feeling without deepening it. Trimming these would sharpen the poem considerably and let the strong concrete images carry more of the burden. The closing couplet ("His life will be missed forever") is the poem's weakest moment because it is pure assertion rather than image; returning to the mirror metaphor one final time — a specific visual — would leave the reader with something to hold rather than a statement to simply accept.

Howdy! I'm Tink

Welcome to Neopoet!! Hope you are enjoying being here! Please reach out if you have any questions!!

This is an honest and raw piece! Losing someone for whatever reason is hard enough for the loved ones. It's even more devasting when you go deeper into the extent of the loss that most people do not think of, such as all of the examples you listed and more.

DEEP!

Thank you for sharing. I hope by doing so there is some therapeutic for you.

You can usually find me in chat. I hope to see you there sometime.

 Live, Love & Laugh,

(And don't forget to Write!)

Yours in Ink,

Tink
