Fricken Fireworks

Fricken Fireworks

Screw the air, who needs it clean
Screw those robins in their nest
Screw the grass, who wants it green
Make those bunnies crazed and stressed

Churn the soil into waste
Fill our lungs with heavy metal
Breathe it in, it’s toxic-based
Grind our airways, choke and nettle

Send plastic shit to every ocean
Traumatize the waterways
We all need this grand commotion
To celebrate our holidays!

We need it loud
It makes us proud
We need it dirty
Our country is worthy!

Slap Mother Earth across her face
We need to put her in her place
Each harsh Ka-BOOM
Each sulfuric fume
Helps kiss her fragile soul goodbye
Who cares?! This is our Fourth of July!

The Farce of July

Hello Lavender

Well said and well scribed, a very timely poem, more a protest at poor moral, ethical values and stupid fireworks, what have we done to this earth, to celebrate ?

Thanks again

Hello, Sen!

The impact of fireworks is so negative. Always glad when they are over.

I cringe through the entire holiday.

Thank you so much for reading!

Awesome

I love how unapologetic this is. Lines like 'Traumatize the waterways' really stick with you. It’s a sad truth wrapped in a great rhythm, and it definitely makes you look at the whole spectacle a bit differently. Brilliant piece.

Hello, Ray,

Each year it's more obnoxious. Makes me sad...

Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!
