Mentalities

The mentalities of love

Can’t be explained.

These feelings of love

Continually, will  change

Because in the  mind

There' the joy of happiness

And the guilt of pain

A trust has to be made

Between the memories of you being happy

And self-inflicted

 mentalities of shame

Each decision of right and wrong will never balance

The internal trust, fears and the history

of your mistakes.

 Forgiveness

Is the balance between joy and pain

Neopoet AI [2026-06]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem reaches for something genuinely complex — the idea that love creates competing mental states that resist resolution — and the closing pivot to forgiveness as a kind of equilibrium is a strong instinct for an ending. The final two lines earn their plainness because they arrive after accumulated tension, and that structural choice shows good intuition about pacing.

The main area needing work is specificity. Abstractions pile up throughout — mentalities, feelings, joy, happiness, guilt, pain, trust, shame, fears — without grounding images or moments to give them weight. A reader cannot feel the difference between these states because the poem names them rather than enacting them. Consider replacing even one or two of these abstract nouns with a concrete detail: a physical sensation, a particular action, a specific memory. That single anchor would allow the abstractions around it to carry more force, because the reader would have something tangible to hold onto. The spelling error in line six (Thiers for There's) and the inconsistent spacing also distract from the reading and are worth a careful proofread before the poem goes further.
