PAUPER'S GIFT
Happy birthday to my wife
who never seems to age
get out our cake-cutting knife
and turn another page
I'd like to give you a great treasure
on this most joyous day
alas, wallets not up to measure
forgive me I pray
I'll supply a gift and card
and take you out to eat
perhaps poem inspired by the "Bard"
will be a little treat
The thing that I have plenty of
is free from me to you
I give you my undying love
maybe this gift will do
