Suck Free Poetry Volume 3: A Question of Caricature

I self publish.  I know my style of writing is not popular but in the venues I frequent it is successful, so I self publish and because I am serious about it, I do it right.

What is right?

I choose a printer and use their template and make certain all the correct parts are in existence and that formatting is clean and editing is done and proofreading is complete.

Then I get an ISBN.  They cost $55 but they both look and are official and demonstrate to everyone that this is a real book.

Then I submit it to the printer and wait the two (2) weeks from submission to receipt.  I normally get a 100 copy run.  I'm realistic, after all, and yes, it takes around 14 days from my upload of the document to my holding the book in my hands.  The cost of this is less than $3/book.  Mine normally run less than 100 pages.

And the last thing I do is register the publication with the US copyright office. This costs $35 and can be done completely on-line.

I'm looking at Amazon as a distribution channel, but their CreateSpace product has some issues and my mind is not made up on them.  CafePress is another option but I have been even less impressed with them.

For now I carry my books around and sell them myself.  I'm not making millions, but that's OK, it's a process in progress.
