As the clock chimes
I know you’ll leave
Cheat me of love,
like a no good thief
The best of times
I shall not grieve
Because it was never
ever about me
So hear me loud and clear :
we stand idle, year after year
So many days left
fading unclear
Sharpened angles
left full of fear
Like the seconds
going ‘round a chiming clock
We always look forward
we never look back
Talking to hear
ourselves speak
Left overpowered
so lost, so weak
A new truth
now I must seek
The silence is deadening
for this I’m weak
Never finding a happy middle
nor a song from a fiddle
I find myself skipping a rock
to thoughts of thee
Raise my glass to
these old memories
As I walk my path,
yesterday’s smiles
for today’s laugh
The clock strikes twelve
we’re all still here
Spending our time
year after year
We go forth,
no more fears
For the chiming clock
brings no more tears.
