Summer Schooled
Summer Schooled
School's out for the summer
every childs dream
Lazy days and beaches
going for ice cream
To the child of a broken family
sometimes those days are few
Learning so much more
they wish they never knew
A jaunt off to the lake
heading for a swim
Let's take the long way 'round
Treating this as a whim
Down the path and through the bushes
towel and tube in hand
Skipping along quite happily
a day of fun, the plan
Let's stop and rest a bit
here beneath the tree
I want to show you something
please come and sit with me
In the distance,childrens laughter
water splashing, having fun
'Neath the tree, hell on earth
there alone with Satans son
Teaching things not to be taught
learning things that are absurd
Whispering quiet words of love
Pain and heartache, all that's heard
Now five decades have gone past
that day etched inside the brain
Every sound and every scent
even feelings still remain
But the saddest part of all
taking all there was to get
That tube never saw the water
that towel...never, did get wet.
