The Future of Neopoet - Cesspool
This is a personal opinion, nothing else. If anything I say offends you, tough shit.
In the olden days, a workshop consisted of poets sharing their work and other poets tearing it to pieces for two (2) main reasons.
1) The critique process forces a poet to defend each word and decision
2) By defending each word choice and decision a poet learns how they write and has the opportunity to get better faster
In the current state at Neopoet a poetry workshop consist of one (1) thing
1) You are so pretty! Everything you do is perfect! Now, quick, tell me the same thing!
I consider myself a competent poet. Not great, competent. Because of this I know that, easily, 90% of what I write is complete and utter crap. Of the 10% that is left, I post what I consist is the best 5% of it on Neopoet and I beg people to tear it apart. I beg people to challenge me on every word and phrase choice. I beg people to give me their honest opinion and each and every comment that is offered as challenge and critique I read and take extremely seriously and I make modifications to my work based on the feedback I have begged to receive.
And I expect anyone who pretends they are a serious poet to be willing to do the same thing. If they refuse to do so, contempt is the most polite reaction I can muster concerning their participation in this workshop.
As a result, I view the participation of a lot of the sycophants and parasites infesting Neopoet with contempt and I do not interact with them as we are traveling different paths and the path they have chosen is one I would shoot myself in the head rather than share. But do they accord me the same respect? No, rather they whine and blather about how mean I am because I will not 5 star their verbal and written diarrhea and praise every shit soaked word they have written.
Let's review this, shall we? If you are not here for the real poetry workshop, have a nice day and if we never interact, that's a good thing. If your interaction is to try to be the one person in the world to out-asshole me, ask around because one of us will be disappointed for a very important reason.
And that reason is that I do not give a flying fuck what you think of me and if you and all the other shit soakers hate me, I consider it a badge of honor. You, on the other hand, want to be taken seriously and I will never do that because you are not worth my time until you are willing to participate in the real workshop.
Is it because I am a better person or poet? Fuck no. It's because I am here for the workshop. It's not about talent, it's about work. I am here to work and get better. If you do not need to get better, why the fuck aren't you publishing your shit for cold, hard, cash?
If I offended anyone, excellent. We are not compatible and should never interact.
Please just decide I am not worth your time because although I will be happy to respond to your anger and attacks, I promise you will not be pleased with my response.
