I Am a Special Snowflake

Please flood me with affirmations of my worth as a human being as I cannot exist without constant praise and compliments.

Yeah, right.

When things are tough, I am there for people.  A close friend, a gentleman I consider a brother, recently had a real crisis in his life.  His mother had been for surgery last week, was home recovering, and started uncontrolled bleeding over the last weekend.  He rushed he to the hospital where she bled out and had to be resuscitated.

She was stabilized, spent a few more days in the hospital, and came home.

I was traveling when I learned of this so i contacted him to let him know when I would be back in town and hounded him to let me know if I could do anything for him.  Cook, clean, run errands, yard work, what-the-hell-ever.

Because you help people in a crisis.

If everyday is a crisis for you, seek professional help because it is rare your acquaintances will be qualified to aid you in any way and their belief that they are helping you will most probably be akin to giving an addict the substance to which they are addicted in order to respond to their displayed symptoms.

Enabling is not empathy and if you are rushing in to feed an addiction you are doing more harm than good and what is more you are behaving in a selfish manner as you assuage your conscious while destroying the object of your attention.
