Welcome to the 20th Centruy, that Quirky USA
The USA finally has a start on a health care coverage system that just may provide affordable care to its citizens. Just so folks understand, I've been a moderate Republican for the last 31 years. During my life time I have experienced every aspect of the health care system in the US.
Until true reform happens that allows every citizen to have affordable health care, most of us are one accident or disease away from bankruptcy. The current bill is not perfect but it is finally a start and perhaps in time my Republican party can begin to learn to govern rather than merely whine and pander.
And maybe I will not need to worry so much about my youngest son who is Aspergers and just turned 18 and now has a chance not to have his condition excluded from his future insured medical care.
I am not referencing things I have heard or the lives of other people, this is my personal experience and even at my point in life where I make an excellent living and have low-cost health insurance provided by my fortune 50 company, I know all of this can change in an instant and I will be back in the same place as I was when, at 24, I tore cartilage in my knee and had to suffer with the consequences for years because I could not afford the operation required to fix it.
All responses that include hyperbole or fabrication will be subject to ridicule and taunting. You want to discuss facts? Bring them and references. You want to trade insults? Your mother is a whore.
- Raised in a military family where full health care was provided at no cost
- As a young adult I had no health care
- Sustained an injury and had to wait over 5 years for treatment due to lack of insurance
- Joined corporate America and bought low-cost health insurance
- Worked for a start up where 11% of my gross income was dedicated to buying health insurance for my family, this was $8500 in 1999
- Watched my children roll off my health care with trepidation
- At 48 I underwent surgery to repair my shoulder. Because I had insurance my cost was $75
- As a very active 49 year old man I deal with a degenerative condition in relation to connective tissue that will now not be excluded from insurance covered treatment the next time I change jobs
