UP AND DOWN

 UP AND DOWN

Up and down,

the sun,

our lives like yoyos

dancing leaves

and seeds of plants we spin,

we sigh,

we die,

each one our song

each individual life to live,

not long,

and yet its long enough to taste this earth

its must,

like mead from honey bees,

from tree to tree,

from flower to flower

each has its hour

of need and deeds,

just living, sensing, breathing like the trees,

just giving sustenance like love

the ether from above,

we say;

each day surprised to find

the sun comes up again,

we walk,

we sleep,

we dine, and as the years they gather

like ploughed white snow,

like twigs on water by the falls,

in each our niche,

in each our woven basket

holding fruits of life's great casket,

gift,

we lift the lid of foam

and finally come home to rest

where other seeds are blessed

with new life in the spring,

their ring spreads out on lakes to dissipate

in smooth flat sheen,

reflecting heaven's light

and are no more seen,

in night.

The ending could be better, no? (ann)
