Dear all,

as we are still getting a steady influx of new members, I thought it might be time to explain a couple of things.

What is the AEC?

The AEC is the Advocates Election Committee, which means that all your applications, be it for guide, advocate or mentor, are sent to the committee, which then decides whether you can take up the chosen role. The decision is largely based on your input here on Neopoet.com. Do you comment regularly? Do you have a way with people, make them feel comfortable and welcome? Do you have above average knowledge about poetry? Those are some of the factors the committee takes into consideration.

But the AEC is also where you can turn with suggestions, ideas or - complaints. You have an idea how to improve Neopoet.com? You would like to suggest additional features? You think you noticed something fishy or downright wrong going on? Contact the AEC.

How is the AEC elected and who can run for AEC membership?

Everyone can take a stab at AEC membership, provided that they have been a member of Neopoet.com for at least one month. You can nominate yourself or any other member when the site news on the front page says "Open Nomination Period".
And every Neopoet.com member can vote for five of the candidates when the election starts. The dates will be displayed on the front page, and there will be a voting guide (questionnaires filled out by the candidates) and the poll that counts your votes in the site news section.

Help, I've been nominated by a fellow member!

You will receive an email telling you that you have been nominated and asking you if you would like to run. Contact details of a current AEC member - usually the chair - will be included. Do contact the person to find out whether AEC is the right "job" for you. If you decide you may as well give it a try, welcome! If you decide that the "job" is not for you - too little time, too much responsibility - no worries, no one gets booted or has their head chopped off for a "no, thank you".
