Is It Wrong / Ist es falsch (Translated by Nina Babon)

Is it wrong
To let love start to grow
When there seems no room
For it to bloom?

Would it be better
To harden the heart
And soul indeed
Against the very seed?

 

Ist es falsch
Liebe anzuzüchten
scheinbar ohne Raum
zum Erblühen?

Wäre es besser
das Herz, die Seele
gegen Samen
einzubetonieren?

This is beautifully done. I wish I could hear it read aloud, in both English and German. The capacity of the heart is infinite, so go ahead and let it grow. (imho) Always, Cat

Thanks much indeed! A perceptive friend and poet noticed a touch of harshness in the sounds in the English original, which is what caused me to solicit translation into German. The first translation was by David Partenheimer, whose first language is English; he stressed that it is generally preferable to have a translator for whom the target language is the first language, so I am very glad to have and to share this new translation by Nina Babon.
