Taboo Subjects

There have been blogs recently about the importance of  titles and a feisty one on symbolism but what happens when you touch on a taboo subject.?Do we turn off the potential readers ( who have been  drawn  in with a good title) by the subject matter...
Orphani for you it may be murderous clowns,  for another anything war related.
I found it interesting that on a recent write about adoption there was just one written response.
I looked at other factors like the timing of the placement of the poem going live, had stream time affected it.?
I ruled that out when I accidental erased some work and had to edit and resubmit it.
Was it a badly written  poem? The one comment didn't think so.

Taboo subject is my only answer and that raises the question  if we commerically write how do we avoid the Taboo subjects that turn off editors and readers. What are they and do they differ from one side of the world to another?

I am keen to learn from other peoples experiences.
