electric islands

You don't know it,
but you glitter against the night
like a handful of fever.

When stars look
up into the blackness, they see
supernovas exploding into
arms
and legs, hair like
unraveled angel.

Bodies in space.
You glide silently past
each other and never,
ever touch

except for brief,
shuddering eclipses.
The stars look up and see
tongues of flame....
...........eclipse
me...
...........shadow
me until there is only
...........a ring of
fire left,
...........until all
that is left of us
...........is a
bright open mouth
...........that's
shocked and wanting...

and think that this is love.
we, far above them,
know better.

they do not watch us
for long. They know
our fused light is too fierce
for their eyes-
it could blind them.
they look away

and wonder. the sound
of our desperate collision
echoes down, blurred
and aching. One day,
it will drive
 their sight upward
and nail it to the place
in the sky where we
kiss violently

and they will watch us,
two supernovas,
two suns,
two electric islands,
tear a hole in the heavens
and slip through.

we will ignite their sight
and burn it out.
The day the sky goes dark,
you will know what happened.
