InstantPublisher.com

I have used InstantPublisher.com to publish the following:

Suck Free Poetry Volume 1: Flatearthers and Other Dreams
Suck Free Poetry Volume 2: Prelude to a Battle of Wits

With excellent results.

They can do runs as few as 25 books, there is a no-nonsense price estimator page, they provide upload software or can accept PDF manuscripts, the shipping charges are extremely reasonable, and the turn-around time is phenomenal.  For my first collection it was eight (8) days total from submission of the manuscript until shipment and for the second collection it was 11 days from submission until shipment.  Both times there was a holiday weekend in the middle of the process.

let me put this in perspective.  I finished my manuscript on the 30th of June, gave it one last proofread and submitted it on July 2nd.  At time of submission my manuscript consisting of 64 pages and a full cover cover was estimated at $220.00 to print.  I agreed to purchase any print overruns at 50% off the per book print price.

This translated into the following:

110 books
$231 total printing costs
$2.10 per book cost
$13.95 shipping cost via fed-ex

I chose a standard paperback size and binding.  They support larger sizes, full color printing, different binding, etc., etc., etc.

So what's the drawback?

It's self or vanity publishing.

Then again, since Amazon.com encourages people to be part of their marketplace and will go so far as to stock your books and sell and ship them, I'm thinking the struggle to get into a bookstore may be a bit over-rated.

At least, that's my plan and now I'll start working on volume 3 to be published aroun 2011.
